Maria Kontouli

Maria (she/they) is a performance maker, performer and painter based in London. With the primary medium of experimental movement and sound manipulation, Maria’s art investigates consciousness, existence, and collective connectedness through myth and archetypal embodiments. She is heavily inspired by nature and the theme of transformation - “the sound of the wind through the leaves and the traffic in the sky at dawn, the colour of a May sunset and the full moon’s shine in your eyes, the reason I am the way I am and have made the choices I made, the comedic tragedy of life and its eternal polarities” - and creates pieces “transmediated” with psychology, anthropology, and astronomy.
